Install Hallvi
One command installs Hallvi. It runs as a background service, and you use it in a browser.
- You need an Apple-silicon Mac or Ubuntu 24.04 x64, and your normal user account. Do not use
sudo. - The installer verifies the signed release before it installs anything into
~/.local. - Then open
http://127.0.0.1:4747, or connect from another computer over SSH.
| You need | Details |
|---|---|
| A computer for Hallvi | An Apple-silicon Mac, or Ubuntu 24.04 on x64. Intel Macs and other Linux systems have no release yet. |
| Your normal user | Install without sudo. |
| To deploy | A ChatGPT plan and Hetzner or a Linux server of your own. A GitHub connection is needed for private repositories or automatic deployment. See Connect your accounts. |
Run the installer
Run this in a terminal on that computer, from a folder you can write to:
curl -fsSLo ./install-hallvi.sh https://github.com/lustoykov/hallvi/releases/latest/download/install-hallvi.sh && sh ./install-hallvi.shThe address names no version, so GitHub always serves the newest release's installer.
- ChecksMac or Ubuntu
- Downloadsthe newest release
- Verifiesthe signed manifest
- Installsinto
~/.local - Askswhere you will use it
- Startsthe service
The script checks the signature before unpacking on Ubuntu, and after unpacking on a Mac. What the signature proves.
Where you will use it
The installer opens http://127.0.0.1:4747 in your browser.
It uses port 5747 and prints two SSH commands for your laptop. See Use Hallvi from another computer.
Over SSH, or on Linux without a display, Enter picks From another computer.
The page says Hi, I'm Hallvi. and asks for a GitHub repository. hallvi status shows the service and the Pi worker running.
The service
hallvi start # run now, and whenever the computer starts
hallvi stop # stop until the next start
hallvi restart
hallvi status # service, interface and Pi worker
hallvi logs -f # follow what the service prints- On a Mac, Hallvi starts at login and pauses while the Mac sleeps. On Linux, it starts at boot.
- If your shell cannot find
hallvi, use~/.local/bin/hallvi. - Running the install command again installs the newest release and keeps your data.
Deploy your first application. Hallvi asks for each account when it needs it.
